Andrew Smith - Butler Market Gardens:

“Coriander is a popular product and demand continues to be strong"

Butler Market Gardens grows a wide range of herbs and vegetables in Heatherton, Melbourne and Queensland. The products are harvested packed and sent to their customers on the same day.

"Coriander is a popular product, and demand continues to be strong. We have not seen any slowdown in demand since coming out of lockdown when people started cooking at home from scratch more. We harvest and sell 70,000 bunches each week."

The coriander is grown outside year-round. Growth rates do slow down a bit in the cooler months.

"Growing conditions this year have been very good, and we expect to continue to see good results in the coming months. We harvest the coriander in the field with the roots still attached and pack into sleeves. We also trim them down and supply punnets in smaller portions."

Butler Market Gardens supplies the Australian domestic market, both retail and wholesale, and, this year, looks forward to increasing the production capacity of their existing lines and servicing their existing customers but are always open to looking at new markets.
