Peru continues expansion in agro sector at Asia Fruit Logistica 2023

From September 6 to 8, Peru is at the epicenter of the global agricultural industry at Asia Fruit Logistica 2023 in Hong Kong. The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PromPeru) and the Association of Agricultural Producer Guilds of Peru (AGAP) lead a delegation that showcases the South American country's potential as an exporter in horticulture.

PromPeru's Executive President Angelica Matsuda mentioned that the national representation, including 26 exhibitors comprising companies and associations, aims to expand shipments to the Asian market for already exported products like fresh grapes, blueberries, and avocados, while also promoting other products such as mandarins and mangoes.

"As in past editions, we will go under the Super Foods Peru sector brand to promote the diversity, quality, and benefits of Peruvian products, and consequently, boost their importation in Asian markets," Matsuda Matayoshi added.

Gabriel Amaro Alzamora, head of the Association of Agricultural Producer Guilds of Peru (AGAP), pointed out that the country's great diversity and favorable agricultural conditions, high productivity, and outstanding quality of agro-export products provide Peru with significant competitive advantages over other countries.

Thus, it is through such fairs that Peru can continue to consolidate its agricultural offering in markets as important as Asia.

Amaro added that AGAP is proud to contribute to the promotion of the country and its extraordinary agricultural export products, whose production and exportation create hundreds of thousands of formal jobs and continue to contribute to the well-being of millions of Peruvians.

PromPeru reported that, within the framework of this event and as part of its international market penetration strategies through its commercial offices, it is conducting a promotional campaign in various supermarkets in Thailand, where fresh and healthy products maintain preference. This initiative aims to bring Peruvian products directly to end consumers in the Asian country, highlighting their properties and exotic flavor.

Exports to Asia
In 2022, Peruvian exports in the agricultural sector to the Asian market exceeded US$987 million, representing a 6.9% increase over the previous year. Moreover, the countries with the highest shipments were China, South Korea, and Japan, primarily for products like fresh grapes (US$234 million), blueberries (US$230 million), avocados (US$103 million), and unroasted coffee (US$89 million).
