Europlátano's Gabaceras banana, Flavor of the Year 2022

Gabaceras bananas have been awarded the Flavor of the Year 2022 award. This distinction evaluates a product's taste, appearance, smell, texture, and consumer's general satisfaction with it. This is the eighth time that the Europlátano Premium brand has been awarded this distinction.

The Flavor of the Year is awarded based on the results of blind tastings in which consumers of the product are unaware of the brand they are trying. These tastings are organized by an independent sensory analysis laboratory. The complete report of the Gabaceras banana tastings reveals that consumers were very satisfied with the product in all the evaluated aspects.

A reference banana in the Canary Islands
"Gabaceras has established itself as a benchmark for Canarian bananas thanks to its differentiated quality and flavor. It is cultivated in an artisanal way that is respectful of farmers, workers, and the environment." "Our cultivation, packaging, transport, and maturation production processes encompass a series of differentiating elements to achieve a texture and quality that generate confidence in the consumer. Now, it also has an extra added value: the extraordinary work that our farmers and workers have carried out since the volcanic crisis began on the island of La Palma," stated Antonio Javier Luis Brito, the managing director of Europlátano.

"The subtropical and mild climate of the Canary Islands is also beneficial to the product. Being closer to the European market allows producers to leave the fruit in the plant for 6 months so that it reaches its degree of maturity little by little, among other things. This gives the banana a higher degree of ripeness, flavor, and aroma that cannot be achieved in any other location. In addition, the Canarian banana complies with all European health and labor law standards."
