Ethylene product for banana ripening approved in Germany

For more than 50 years, Catalytic Generators has been focusing on applying ethylene in the safest way possible. Over the years, the company has built a presence in the US, Australia, as well as several European countries. Most recently, approval was received for the use of Catalytic's Ethy-Gen® II Concentrate product in Germany. "This is a noteworthy achievement," says Greg Akins, President & CEO of Catalytic Generators. "Our plant protection product has met the necessary safety and efficacy standards from BVL (Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety)."

"Our goal has been to offer German banana ripeners the same quality ethylene application products that are offered to ripeners in North America and other countries," Akins said. BVL approval was key to this." German banana ripeners now have access to products that ripeners in the UK, North America, Australia, and other locations have been using for years. "They will find that ethylene from our process is easier and more economical to apply than other products."

Expansion in the EU
Catalytic's concentrate has held US EPA approval for many years, but more recently, the company undertook registration in EU countries and heavily invested in the authorizations. After successful Dutch registration a few years ago, the company started the application for German registration about a year ago. "Compliance with the demanding requirements of plant protection product approvals has been long, hard, and expensive," Akins mentioned. "However, we believe in our products enough to invest the time and money into this." Efforts to add approvals in other EU countries are underway and Akins expects these registrations will follow soon. To show its dedication to the European market, several locations have been established for fast delivery of the concentrate.

Catalytic's ethylene application process was invented in the US over 50 years ago and differentiates from other ethylene ripening methods as the process slowly emits ethylene over a 24-hour application time. As a result, ethylene is created in a safe and economical manner. "Safety is something we take seriously as it is the hallmark of our business," Akins commented. "Not only is the Ethy-Gen II concentrate certified, but we also invest in having our generators comply with safety standards." They hold TÜV certification, a highly recognized mark of trust and quality worldwide. "TÜV certification in combination with BVL approval assures German fruit companies that they are using safe and effective products from an established company. We were the first to introduce ethylene generators to the fresh produce world over 50 years ago."
