"This winter's citrus sales are going well. We're currently selling the last Clemenules with and without leaves, but it's nearly the end of that season. Leaf Clemenules are priced between €11 and €12, leafless, between €10.50 and €11.50," says Erik-Jan Thur of the Dutch company Marni Fruit.
Tango leaf mandarins under King's, Marni Fruit's house brand.
"These mandarins still have good eating quality, but customers are noticeably eager for new varieties like Tango leaf mandarins. Though, people will have to get used to the prices again."
"Those mandarins' retail prices will soon be between €15 and €16. Still, our clientele prefers mandarins with leaves," says the importer.
Starting next week, Marni Fruit will also receive the first Egyptian Mirav mandarins. "A kind of pitless easy peeler. Given the market demand, these should sell well."
"Orange prices also remain good. Spanish Navels are still going for €14 to €15. Egyptian oranges are on the way, but they won't be cheap either. Overall, supply is slightly more limited. Egyptian citrus is gaining ground, though it depends on the variety. For oranges, that's mainly Valencias, supplemented by Navels," Erik-Jan concludes.
