The market has a large demand for the new variety, Xishi pomelo

Meizhou honey pomelo expects a bumper harvest

The Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day are approaching, and Meizhou pomelo will usher in a bumper harvest. Meizhou is the largest pomelo-producing area in Guangdong, with a planting area of over 43,000 hectares and a total output of 950,000 tons, accounting for 90% of the total output of Guangdong Province and one-fifth of China. Meizhou, the "hometown of Chinese honey pomelo", is famous for its plump, juicy, crispy, and aromatic fruits, represented by Dapu, at home and abroad, and is deeply loved by consumers.

Judging from the pre-sales of honey pomelo this year, the quality is generally being recognized by the market. Even before picking begins in the orchards, there are already a large number of orders. Compared with the situation last year, when buyers outside the production places were rarely interested, the market situation this year is very different. In June, a large number of customers went to the origin to purchase and prepare to export overseas.

This season's Meizhou pomelo has had a rapid increase in Brix levels, more moisture than the same period last year, and a better appearance. At present, all the orchards have started harvesting in batches. The retail price of fine fruit is 20-24RMB per kilogram, and regular-class fruit is 12RMB per kilogram. Overall, 70% - 80% of the output has been reserved by customers, and the sales pressure of pomelo fruit is lower than last year.

At present, Meizhou pomelos, which represent festivity and reunion, have set off a market boom. Compared with the traditional domestic pomelo varieties such as white or red flesh, and Sanhong honey pomelo, the Xi Shi pomelo, as a new variety, is favored by consumers in the high-end market.

Influenced by comprehensive factors such as the impact of the pandemic, the restructuring of the pomelo fruit market has intensified, and the market competition has become particularly fierce. As the traditional domestic honey pomelo market tends to be saturated, the honey pomelo market has not been in short supply and has had hot sales in recent years. However, the new variety Xishi pomelo has a low domestic output, good market freshness and large demand, and is currently in a situation of short supply.
