Paul Devlin - Halls

"Our product stays fresh for 30 days under refrigeration and has absolutely no waste"

The recent Fruit Logistica in Berlin saw the official launch of Halls' Naked Avocado range. The fresh convenience avocado range includes cubes, halves and guacamole.

"This new range aimed at a wide customer base and it caused quite a stir at Fruit Logistica with more interest and demand than we had expected and led to some very engaging conversations from all types of customers from food service, retail and chefs. The motto is 'Nothing to hide, nothing to waste'"

Halls were at the forefront of bringing the first machine tested ready-to-eat avocados to the UK market in 1999, but as consumers we still, unfortunately find unripe, over-ripe avocados or internal defects in too many avocados on the supermarket shelves. There is data that suggests that as much as 30% of avocados are discarded and become food waste in households.

"The global avocado category continues to grow, but consumers must have a good experience and many will continue to buy fresh avocados. This new range of 'Naked Avocados' is also 100% fresh, with no additives or preservatives, no frozen and nothing airfreighted. It puts Halls in a great place to service each avocado buyer in every channel as everyone's needs are different."

"It is a balance between food waste and packaging, our product stays fresh for 30 days under refrigeration and has absolutely no waste and everything is made in France. Plastic is currently unavoidable as it preserves shelf life, but we ensure our packaging incorporates a minimum of 50% recycled content. We regularly assess materials and have already halved the weight of the packaging material from 29g to 17g since the inception of the product without compromise to the product."

The new range is currently selling very well in France & Luxembourg throughout numerous retailers and food service outlets, and following Berlin, is actively being sampled by key retailers in Spain, Germany, Scandinavia, Holland, Italy and Eastern Europe. We aim to start sampling the UK from mid-March.
