Critical shortage of tinned beetroot hits Australia

Australia is currently experiencing a significant shortage of tinned beetroot, a situation traced back to a pivotal supply chain disruption. Colin Dorber, CEO of Lockyer Valley Foods, highlighted the issue during a conversation with Jacqui Felgate on 3AW Drive.

"It's a supply issue," Dorber remarked, pointing out a decisive shift in the industry landscape that occurred over a decade ago. The relocation of Heinz to New Zealand in 2011 marked a turning point, leading to Australia importing over 95% of its non-fresh beetroot from international sources, including the United Kingdom, South America, and, notably, China.
