"Growing competition in guacamole market is driving us to offer things others don't have"

At Fruit Logistica, Anecoop unveiled the latest addition to its range of ready-to-eat spreads, which will be called Guisamole in Spain and Pe-a-Mole in the international market; a blend of both peas and avocado.

“We have developed a recipe with a truly unique flavor, featuring the sweetness of peas, enhanced with lemon and other aromas, combined with the taste of avocado,” said Alberto Cáncer and Francisco Garrido, from Anecoop. “It is a product of great nutritional value, with much more protein and less fat than traditional guacamole. In fact, we are including it in the high-protein food segment.”

“We are seeking the kind of combinations that allow for the consumption of different products on different days, offering more product variety and consumption alternatives with avocado as the basis. Dipping products are becoming increasingly popular, and guacamole is already well established around the world,” says Alberto Cáncer.

In fact, guacamole consumption continues to rise and the product is increasingly becoming a commodity, according to Alberto. “Last year, we introduced Brocomole, with broccoli and avocado, in various supermarket chains, and we see that it has helped boost the sales in this category, as sales of guacamole in various formats have continued to grow. The category demands products linked to the vector that is driving it, which in this case is guacamole, as a derivative of avocado.”

“We have this need to innovate because we are close to the field, so we will seek interesting solutions for consumers and a more efficient use of the harvests,” says Francisco Garrido. “And the fact is that our producer partners have increasingly more avocados available. During the domestic season, our main source of avocados is Valencia, but we also resort to other origins to be able to offer these derivative products all year round.”

According to Alberto Cáncer, “there is great competition in the guacamole market. There are more and more players, although competition is always good, because it pushes us to be imaginative and to offer things that others don't have. Unlike most of our competitors, we do not focus only on guacamole. We have a very wide range of products besides the spicy and organic versions, including Brocomole, Avocado and Chickpea Hummus, or Mexican Sauce, among many others.”

The Guisamole is part of the "¿Ysi? de Bouquet" ready-to-eat line ("Easy by Bouquet" for the international market), which is marketed both in Spanish retail chains and in various European countries, such as Poland, Czech Republic, Luxembourg, France, Belgium, etc. At this Fruit Logistica, contacts may have been made to reach new countries, like Germany or the United Kingdom,” said Francisco and Alberto.
