Maharashtra anticipates comprehensive mango exports to the US

The Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB) has established an objective to process and export 5,000 tons of mangoes this season. The focus is on markets in developed nations such as the US and Europe, according to Sanjay Kadam, Managing Director of MSAMB. The commencement of the mango season has been promising, with expectations of a fruitful yield attributed to the favorable weather conditions. The Konkan region's growers are particularly optimistic, contrasting with the moisture stress reported in Karnataka's orchards. Maharashtra's Alphonso and Kesar mangoes are highlighted as the primary varieties for export.

The MSAMB's Vashi export facility is equipped with Vapor Heat Treatment and irradiation facilities, essential for compliance with international export standards. The commencement of comprehensive exports to the US is anticipated following the arrival of a US phytosanitary inspector on April 10. This facility had previously facilitated the export of 425 tons of mangoes under the supervision of the inspector responsible for pomegranate exports. In addition to the US, the MSAMB is targeting markets in Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. Despite the significant volume of mango exports to the Gulf countries, the preference is to target developed markets due to the higher returns. Mango cultivation in India spans over 240,000 hectares, with an estimated production of 21.79 million tons this season. In the fiscal year 2022-23, India exported 22,963.76 tons of mangoes.
