In Madeira, a farmer has successfully developed a new species of papaya with the assistance of Microlab Madeira. This innovation not only demonstrates the farmer's capacity to meet market demands but also highlights the high quality of the produce.
The Regional Director of Agriculture, Marco Caldeira, acknowledged Microlab's role during a visit to the production site in Ponta de Sol. Microlab, operating under the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Rural Development, aims to boost Madeiran and Porto Santo agriculture. It focuses on the in vitro propagation of pest-free plant species that hold significant regional value. Caldeira emphasized the importance of adapting to market demands while maintaining product quality. He also noted the growing consumer trend towards purchasing locally produced agricultural goods, which supports the regional economy.
