Garlic price hike in capital district of Papua New Guinea

In the National Capital District of Papua New Guinea, a notable increase in garlic prices has been reported this week. The weekly market survey by Post-Courier Online, focusing on garden produce prices within the city, identified this trend.

Prices escalated from K1 to K1.50 and K2 per bulb over the past month. Kivya Hue, a vendor at Boroko market, attributed the rise to a shortage of supplies, with many stores running out of stock. Those vendors who secured their supplies earlier are now in a position to sell at higher prices.

This scenario is echoed by Sendy Pana from Southern Highlands, who anticipates a normalization of supply by next week. Additionally, the survey noted price increases in onions, while ginger prices remained stable. Carrot supplies have seen improvement, leading to stable prices across markets. The price and supply of banana and kaukau remained unchanged, with Boroko offering lower prices for bananas. Conversely, coconut prices have risen to K1.50 from K1 in most markets.
