Niels Peter Klapwijk with Nature Fresh Farms on exhibiting at SEPC:

“We’ll be showing a disruptive new pepper variety”

SEPC's Southern Exposure show will be held in Tampa, Florida this week, and greenhouse grower Nature Fresh Farms® is excited to show some relatively new products as well as an item that has yet to hit the market.

Hiiros Tomatoes
Back in the Fall of 2022, Hiiros™ Tomatoes were launched. "They are a tomato with a rich umami flavor that isn't experienced with any other tomato on the market," says Niels Peter Klapwijk, VP Procurement & Sales TPC. Available in both organic and conventional, Hiiros are a variety that was originally bred for the Japanese market, which views exceptional produce as a gift of honor. "This variety lives up to these expectations as it brings consumers a truly exceptional flavor and eating experience," he said. Hiiros are grown year-round in greenhouses in Leamington, ON, Canada, and more recently, Nature Fresh Farms announced a partnership with Millennium Pacific. "They will grow Hiiros tomatoes on the West Coast and have made California-grown Hiiros Tomatoes available in the market." Hiiros come in different packaging formats, including a 12 oz. clamshell, 255 grams, and 10 oz. Top Seal packaging, 1.5 lbs. Top Seal and a 1.5 lbs. clamshell.

Organic strawberries
Just a year later, Organic Greenhouse BerriesTM were launched. "These are the first organic greenhouse-grown strawberries in the North American market," commented Klapwijk. Grown in Nature Fresh Farms' greenhouses in Delta, OH, USA, they are available from September through June. "They are available during a time when organic field berry supplies diminish. They provide consistent, fresh summer sweet strawberries that consumers and retailers can count on." In addition to being the first organic greenhouse-grown strawberries, they are also Fair Trade certified and sustainably grown as they use 70 percent less water. Organic strawberries are available in two types of packaging: a 12 oz. clamshell greenhouse shape as well as a rectangular 12 oz. clamshell.

Sweet S'NAPS
Having been in development for quite some time, Sweet S'NAPSTM, a new sweet pepper variety, is officially launching in the market this spring. "They are a category disrupting pepper that is exclusive to Nature Fresh Farms," said Klapwijk. Available in five different colors (red, orange, yellow, green, purple/brown), the variety has the light, refreshing crispness of a Granny-Smith apple that is sweet, juicy, and snackable. "With its limitless usage including raw, dipped, grilled, or air-fried, it's a pepper that is bringing excitement to the pepper category." Sweet S'NAPS are grown in Leamington, ON, Canada, as well as in Mexico, and will be available in 12 oz. as well as 16 oz. Top Seal packaging, which consumers will be able to buy year-round.

SEPC
"We are looking forward to connecting with the industry and our partners in Tampa this weekend," commented Klapwijk. "This show gives our team the chance to learn about trends, advancements, and new product offerings. In addition, it allows us to connect with our retail partners, discuss their specific wants and needs, and identify how we may help address them."
