New Zealand's PiqaBoo® pears arrive in China

The first of the New Zealand grown PiqaBoo® Pears arrived in China last week.

"Demand and excitement continue to grow as more and more consumers get a taste of this beautiful and delicious pear. Volumes are increasing year by year and licensees are excited to continue to develop the market for this variety," said Amanda Lyon, PiqaBoo® Brand Manager. "There is a very exciting future ahead for this unique fruit."

The pear originated in New Zealand, and is now also grown in Europe, with plans for plantings in other regions to meet the growing demand for this pear. The first arrival in China is of one container, with more containers due end April/early May.

"We are expecting over 50% more volume from New Zealand this season compared to last season, and with increased plantings will continue to see strong growth over the coming seasons."

New Zealand also exports the PiqaBoo to Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.

"PiqaBoo is a special IP pear variety developed in New Zealand. Attention to detail and much care is taken throughout the growing, harvesting and packing process to ensure the highest quality fruit is achieved."
