From February 13th to 16th, numerous representatives from specialty retail, food retail, and food service met with suppliers and producers from around the world at Biofach in Nuremberg. Over the years, this four-day trade event at the Nuremberg Exhibition Center has evolved into the leading trade fair for the international organic sector.

A supporting role for fresh fruits and vegetables
Exhibitors from the organic food sector made their presence felt at this year's Biofach. Fruits and vegetables, especially in their fresh form, played more of a supporting role compared to frozen products, dry goods, and nuts. Nevertheless, leading suppliers of organic fruits and vegetables, such as Landgard Bio, BioTropic, Elbe-Obst, Franken Gemüse, Obst vom Bodensee, and Lehmann Natur, continued to show their presence in Nuremberg. The fair also offered an excellent platform for suppliers from both European and non-European countries to present new and proven products. Classic organic farming countries such as Italy and France, as well as Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Greece, were well represented.
According to media reports, the organic sector faced a significant setback and decline in sales last year due to inflation and consumer restraint. However, discussions with exhibitors and visitors indicate that the situation has gradually begun to normalize over the past few months. Looking at the longer term, the organic share of fruits and vegetables is showing an increased share. Especially for smaller items like cress and domestic sweet potatoes, the majority of the production volume is now produced according to organic standards.
