Dutch company's Symach palletizer hits 20 million processed bags milestone

"Palletizing celeriac was truly innovative at the time"

When Johnny de Bat from Symach received a photo via the app showing that a palletizer had processed over 20 million bags, he knew it was time to celebrate. Last week, he visited the Dutch company Van den Berge Trading Company, bringing cake.

Van den Berge now runs four Symach palletizers. "We installed the first one in 2007, bought two more in 2009 and 2011, and the last one followed in 2020," says Harry van den Berge. "In 2007, we wanted to palletize celeriac and onions, which was quite innovative at the time. That's how we made contact with Johnny."

"Since we're both from the area, there was an immediate connection. If suppliers perform well, we're loyal customers. If something works well, we want to keep it that way. Symach's palletizers function well, and we're assured of good service. Because they are nearby, they can be on hand quickly if needed to solve any potential problems," Harry explains.

Johnny confirms that connection. "When I visit Harry and his brothers for business, we usually chat about that for an hour, but maybe three about other things. That's what makes this such a wonderful collaboration. A lot of testing was involved with the first celeriac machine. It was genuinely difficult, but we eventually succeeded," he says.

"Even with the last delivered machine, we had to puzzle quite a bit out to fit it into the available space. But we kept adjusting until it was right. The first palletizer has now passed the 20 million bag mark, and I hope to deliver more cakes in the coming years," Johnny concludes.
