Green Fruits increased sales by 12%

"These results are the best defense of cooperativism”

Green Fruits was established in April 2018, the result of the union of three fruit and vegetable companies: Cooperativa Citricola de La Safor, from Gandia; SAT Novacitrus, from Oliva, and the Alicante Agricultural Cooperative of Pego, which decided to join forces to optimize their management and growth. In 2021 Copal, based in Algemesí, joined Green Fruits, and in October 2022 the incorporation of Alzicoop, from Alzira, was approved.

In June 2023, Green Fruits continued growing via a collaboration agreement with Soex2. With this agreement, the cooperative is now responsible for selling Soex2's citrus, mainly clementines of the Clemenules variety.

Thanks to the different integration processes, Green Fruits has a trading volume of nearly 115,000 tons, mainly of oranges and mandarins.

In line with the results of the 2022-2023 financial year recently presented by Anecoop, Green Fruits has also increased its turnover to 55 million euros, i.e. 11.9% more than in the previous year, despite a decrease in volume.

"Being able to present these results despite the geopolitical situation, inflationary trends, or the impact of climate change on agriculture is the best defense of cooperativism," stated Josep Vicent Salort, president of Green Fruits.

"It draws a promising scenario for this model. One can only wonder, if these are the results obtained in adverse circumstances, what would we be able to achieve in a more flattering scenario?"

The General Assembly held on March 25 approved increasing liquidation payments to agricultural members by 6% compared to last year. "Members will receive 50% directly and the remaining 50% will be contributed to the society," said Salort.

Synergies between members
The synergies between warehouses of the different packing facilities of the entities that make up Green Fruits have made it possible to optimize the handling of the product. "This is just one example of how integration can improve efficient management and reduce costs. It's also worth noting that integrations have increased our product diversification, adding value to our portfolio. In our most recent ones, we added kaki and avocado to our offer, " Salort stated.

The second-degree cooperative Anecoop has promoted and counseled Green Fruits in its integration process from the beginning, as the cooperatives that started the project were part of the Intenal Business Group that Aneecoop launched in 2003. "We are proud of the success of our members. It confirms that the cooperative model is economically viable without sacrificing community involvement," said Alejandro Monzón, president of Anecoop.
