"We’re looking at lower mango export volumes compared to last year"

The Indian mango season is just about to kick off, but export volumes aren't expected to reach the levels of 2023, says Parth Ramani of Indian fresh produce exporter, Sanjog Enterprise: "After a long period of preparation, we're glad to see that our mango season is starting from next week. Looking at the volumes, we're looking at lower export volumes compared to last year. This has mostly to do with the higher freight rates, which have almost doubles from the previous year."

The major challenge ahead of the mango exporters from India will be handling the logistical problems, Ramani explains. "So far the weather has been good, and we hope no rain will surprise us in the near future. It would be bad for the season if these rains do show up. It's not the only challenge though, as due to the Red Sea crisis, the booking of freight space is a main issue. We've received an update regarding the booking one day ago, which affected the process in terms of hot water treatment planning for European countries, as we have less time for processing."

"Overall, it seems like the main issue this season is going to be all about the logistics, as the mango itself is good and available, but getting them underway is going worse than before," Ramani concludes.
