Indonesian officials recently annihilated approximately 19,800 Malaysian mangoes confiscated on March 11 in the Meranti Islands, Riau, aiming to eliminate the distribution of subpar food products and safeguard the nation from potential economic losses.
The destruction is part of efforts to enforce customs regulations, bolster the competitiveness of domestic goods and shield them from international market competition, as articulated by Agoes Widodo, the Customs and Excise Supervision Officer in Bengkalis.
The seizure occurred during a maritime patrol operation that intercepted a vessel that was transporting the mangoes near Kuala Sungai Terus and Meranti Bunting Village. The operation led to the detention of three individuals lacking necessary tax and import documentation, with a fourth suspect fleeing the scene.
