Peruvian fresh blueberry exports experienced a notable increase in value, reaching $1.661 billion between weeks 18 and 08 of the 2023/2024 campaign. This is 16% more than the US$1,438 million achieved in the same period of the 2022/2023 campaign, according to reports from the market research company Fluctuante.
Despite this increase in value, Peruvian fresh blueberry exports decreased by 22% in volume, falling from 280,000 tons in the previous season to 217,000 tons this season. This increase in value is attributed to a significant increase in the average price of blueberries in international markets, which for the 2023/2024 campaign stood at US$7.59 per kilogram, i.e. 46% more than the US$5.19 per kilo average price of the previous campaign.
The report also highlighted that 95% of blueberry shipments were made by sea, 4% by air, and 1% by road. This scenario underscores the importance of Peruvian blueberries in international markets and the influence of prices on the total value of exports.
