In Bangladesh, the month of Ramadan has led to a significant increase in lemon prices due to heightened demand. Lemon farmers are experiencing profitable returns as they sell 100 lemons for Tk800-900, a stark contrast to the Tk100-200 price range during the peak season.
Despite May, June, and July being the primary months for lemon cultivation, farmers engage in year-round production to meet the off-season demand triggered by Ramadan. This has resulted in prices soaring to Tk60-80 for four lemons in Dhaka.
One lemon producer from Kushtia noted: "I got Tk8 by selling per piece big size lemons a day before Ramadan." The country's lemon production reached 237,000 tons in the fiscal year 2022-23, up from 207,000 tons the previous year, as per the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
