Seoul Metropolitan Government tries to stabilize pricess of apples and green onions

In an effort to address the recent surge in apple prices, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has taken measures by introducing a promotional sale of apples and green onions at Lotte Mart branches across downtown Seoul. This initiative, set to run for three days starting from the 21st, will offer apples at 9,990 won for a 2.5-kilogram box and green onions at 2,950 won per kilogram. This pricing strategy represents a significant discount from early March's retail averages, with apples and green onions being 66% and 24% cheaper, respectively.

The decision for this discount sale stems from a collaboration between the public and private sectors aimed at alleviating the financial strain on consumers caused by the steep increase in fruit and vegetable prices. To support this endeavor, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, in conjunction with the Seoul Agricultural and Fisheries Food Corporation and various Garak Market wholesale market corporations, has committed to supplying 7.5 tons of apples and 17 tons of green onions.
