Irrigation tech boosts fruit farming in Goiás

In the Northeast of Goiás, a program facilitated by Codevasf is significantly impacting local agriculture by providing small farmers with advanced irrigation technology for mango and passion fruit cultivation. This initiative marks a pivotal step towards altering the economic landscape of the historically underdeveloped Vão do Paranã area. With an investment nearing R$11 million, the project is a collaborative effort aiming at the sustainable development of the region. The introduction of irrigation systems is seen as a key factor in enhancing food production efficiency and fostering job opportunities.

The initiative commenced with a pilot involving 10 families in Flores de Goiás, who were each allocated R$65,000 to establish irrigation systems for their mango and passion fruit farms. Looking ahead, the project's ambition is to extend its reach to approximately 300 producers across the municipalities of Formosa and São João d'Aliança by the following year.
