Ukraine boosts export of fresh fruits and berries via maritime routes

In 2023, Ukraine significantly increased its exports of fresh fruits and berries, which require special temperature conditions, utilising refrigerated containers and maritime routes. According to the Ukrainian Association of Agrarian Export, the export volume of such products reached 35,369 tons. This figure is one-third higher compared to 2022 (27,809 tons) and exceeded the volumes of such specialised exports in 2021 (23,047 tons) by 50%.

However, the situation regarding vegetable exports depicts a significant downturn. Since the onset of full-scale war, a decrease in Ukrainian vegetable shipments to foreign markets has been observed. In 2021, exports amounted to 30,877 tons, plummeting to just 2,227 tons in 2022, and further diminishing to 966 tons in 2023.

The Association believes that further expansion of capacities for the temporary maritime corridor, controlled by Ukraine, will create additional conditions for increasing exports of products requiring special temperature transport. This initiative aims to mitigate risks associated with blockades of land routes at borders with the European Union, ensuring stability for Ukraine's agricultural sector.
