Moldovan table grape exports see significant growth in 2023

Last year, Moldova's table grape sector reported a notable increase in both the volume and value of its exports. Specifically, there was an 11% rise in the quantity of grapes exported and a 33% boost in their overall value. This growth allowed Moldovan grapes to penetrate markets in ten additional countries, according to IPN.

Official figures from the Customs Service and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry indicate that Moldova exported 84,550 tonnes of table grapes in 2023, generating $75.67 million in revenue. The average export price was pegged at $0.9 per kilogram. Notably, the export destinations expanded to include 33 countries, up from 23 in the previous year, introducing Moldovan grapes to markets in Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Italy, Lithuania, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan, and Albania, among others.

This expansion was facilitated by the European Parliament’s decision, which granted Moldovan grape exporters duty-free access to the EU market, without any quantitative restrictions. This regulatory change has significantly bolstered Moldova's position in the international grape trade.
