Switzerland:

Increased promotions lead to low prices for organic chicory

In November, the price of organic chicory (also known as Brussels Witloof) in Swiss retail was at 7.76 CHF/kg. This is a higher price than the previous month (7.61 CHF/kg). However, compared to previous years, the price is still at a low level. For instance, the price was 8.20 CHF/kg in November 2022 and 9.94 CHF/kg in November 2021. More promotions were recorded in November than in the previous months, which could be a reason for the lower prices.

Organic blond oranges peaked in November
In traditional retail (excluding discounters), the price for organic blond oranges in November was 4.13 CHF/kg. This was 5.3% lower than in October, which is a typical price movement during this period. However, compared to the November prices of the previous ten years, the price is high: with the exception of 2018, there has been no November since 2013 where the price exceeded the mark of 4 CHF/kg. Due to the price increase, organic blond oranges were also more than twice as expensive as conventionally produced blond oranges (2.01 CHF/kg, +105%).
