On May 24 and 25, the international logistics industry went to Hamburg for the 20th Logistics Days. The two-day congress, accompanied by a trade exhibition, was once again a meeting place for experts from trade, industry and science as well as a showcase for approaches and projects to exploit cost-cutting and optimization potential in international logistics. FreshPlaza.de has gathered some exhibitor comments on this year's event.

'The future is green'
The Runden Group was on site for the first time, in association with its sister companies. "The 20th anniversary not only clearly shows that this industry get-together has truly established itself as a true institution. The general atmosphere on site is great. We specifically exhibit our WBG-Pooling reusable folding crates here, which are perfect for sensitive foods such as fruit and vegetables thanks to the perforation and thus excellent air circulation. The focus of the event is definitely the digitalization and automation of logistics - but we can also present our folding crates, Smart Labels or Track & Trace," they report.

According to the Round Group, the future will be green. "Alternative drives, such as digitalization along the supply chain, as well as infrastructure are becoming more relevant. However, due to political circumstances, implementation is not particularly easy here either. Therefore, the greenest solution at the moment is to drive with bio-LNG within pooling reusable transport packaging, in order to be able to save corresponding CO2 emissions."
Walter Ahn from Wasto-Pac in Erftstadt was on site as an exhibitor as well. The company mainly deals with cleaning as well as procurement of pallets and plastic containers.
Focus on retail
Walter Ahn also drew a positive interim conclusion at the end of the first day of the event. "This year, too, the event is completely sold out, with about 350 visitors. You can see from the well-known exhibitors, who are also active in the agricultural sector, that the Logistics Days also have a high status in this area. Nevertheless, the focus is clearly on food retailing and the associated logistics processes. Overall, the mood was quite good, but behind the scenes you can see that for many companies, orders have declined."

Euro Pool System would of course not skip this year's event. At the end of the two-day event, they were extremely satisfied with the number of visitors, said Marian Polomski.
Mood slowly improving
"The high energy costs for electricity and gas have caused changes in the procurement channels of the fresh segment, in addition to the current challenges with the increasing extreme weather caprices between drought and floods, as currently unfortunately visible in Italy. For the first time since the positive development in the fruit and vegetable sector due to the pandemic, many participants have spoken of challenges since March 2022 and report consumer reticence in this segment. EPS is also noticing these developments in the area of changing supply chains. Therefore, we are pleased to participate as an exhibitor at the anniversary event and to have good discussions with a yet slowly improving mood in our perception," says Marian Polomski from Euro Pool System.
"The interesting topics of the lectures have certainly contributed to a recalibration of our views. For us, the Hamburg Logistics Days are still a highlight in our calendar. We are already looking forward to the 21st Hamburg Logistics Days on February 28/29, 2024," Polomski concludes.
