Italian OP Altamura approaches the Berlin trade fair with optimism

"Our strength lies in offering the widest range of baby leaf"

The entry of new members, the expansion of the product range and the return of the fair to what it looked like before corona struck are the spirit with which the Italian growers' association OP Altamura is preparing for Fruit Logisitica.

"Baby leaf is still the main product of our cooperative, but meanwhile, thanks to the entry of new members, we have expanded our range to include strawberries, citrus, vegetables, leafy greens and yellow melons," says President Alfonso Altamura.

"We continue to offer all our references and in the best possible way every time: in addition to ensuring guaranteed quality and production capacity, the strength of our growers' association lies in offering a very wide range of the baby leaf product," continues Altamura. "The arugula from the Sele plain with protected geographical indication (arugula della Piana del Sele IGP), still remains our main product, but besides this we are pioneers in growing certain items, such as baby kale, wasabi arugula and red pak choi. For these niche products, there is a lot of demand from the restaurants who like to suggest new mixes or recipes."

"At the previous Fruit Logistica, in April 2022, we launched our first line of ready-to-eat salad: Mama Salad. That one is doing well in the market, both because of its very appealing presentation and the quality and sustainability of the product."

Mama Salad will also be one of the key players at the fair next week, along with the Mix Selvatico of wild herbs (launched in November last year) and the line of edible flowers. "With the launch of the line in 2019 and the recovery of the hospitality industry after the lockdowns, we are seeing an increase in sales of edible flowers, both abroad and in Italy. So far, we have done a good job."

Positive mood for the fair                                                                "We are very excited because it looks like a lot of people are expected to the fair. It will actually be the first real post-Covid edition of Fruit Logistica. This year will be big! At least we have high expectations," explained Altamura. "We will have a 100-square-metre stand, where we will present our products and where we will also host tastings with our products and recipes typical of the Mediterranean diet."

"It will be very busy for three days. Therefore, we invite anyone interested to make an appointment to meet us at the stand. This can be done by writing us at info@opaltamura.com."

OP Altamura is exhibiting at Fruit Logistica in hall 4.2, stand C-10.
