Indonesia is one of the most important mangosteen producing countries and its growing areas are scattered over almost all of the country's islands, including Java.
In Java area, new mangosteen harvest has recently started. "Java is one of the main production areas, especially in the Banyuwangi, Pati, Purwakarta and Bogor areas. The harvest period is usually from the beginning of November to the end of December." Chintya Tjoeng, CEO of Frozen Fruits Company, told FreshPlaza.
Due to favourable weather condition throughout the whole year, not only was the volume of production bigger, compared to last season, but also the overall quality is better.
According to Chintya Tjoeng, currently the overseas demand is strong and more mangosteens from Java are being exported compared to the same period last year. "Among all destinations, China has became the most important market for mangosteen exports from Indonesia."
