The Lake Constance apple harvest has been completed and is up 25 percent on the previous year. "Despite challenging conditions due to increased energy and input costs, our growers have done an excellent job," says Dr. Christian Rothfuss, managing director of BayWa Obst und Obst vom Bodensee Vertriebsgesellschaft.
"As a result, we have very attractive fruit sizes of great quality, in line with market demand. This gives us a good starting position for selling this year's harvest."
"As of November 1, a total of 121,500 tons of table apples were in storage in the Lake Constance region. This is about a quarter more than the smaller harvest of the previous year. Optimal weather conditions after blossoming ensured a high sugar content and thus very tasty apples. There was no frost or hail damage this year, as occurred in 2020 and 2021. And unlike in other regions of Europe, there was also sufficient rain in the Lake Constance region, so that the size spectrum is optimal for the German market and is significantly better than last year," says Jürgen Nüssle, managing director of producer organization WOG.
