Fire halts trading in Navi Mumbai fruit market

The Navi Mumbai APMC fruit market was engulfed in flames yesterday (Thursday, 17 November). No people were hurt with the fire department able to dispatch four fire trucks to douse the flames.

The cause of the fire is still being determined. The blaze broke out around 16:40 in the afternoon just before the later afternoon rush of trading. Wooden boxes and cardboard cartons used for fruit packing  was spread out in the market, making it challenging for fire fighters to reach the blaze. The fire was contained to the N wing where fruit trading takes place.
