Organic strawberries and raspberries are grown in the highlands of the Tashkent region

Organic raspberries and strawberries of remontant varieties of foreign selection are grown on 4 ha in the Bustanlyk district of the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan, in areas located at an altitude of 1 500 m above sea level, EastFruit experts report.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, these plots were previously used as pastures for livestock. In 2017, Escolado Business LLC developed 15 ha of land and brought water for irrigation from a height of 350 m through pipes with a length of 7 km. Since 2021, organic production of foreign varieties of strawberries and raspberries has been launched here.

Strawberry plantations cover 2.5 ha, and varieties such as Cabrillio (USA), Albion (USA), Florida Beauty (USA) and Monterey (USA) were selected.

The planting density averaged 50 000 seedlings per hectare with the scheme 70 x 30 cm, and drip irrigation was constructed. The lower part of the seedlings is covered with agrospan, and mulched with straw.

Strawberries are harvested for 150-160 days: from the 20th of May to the end of October. The yield is 400-500 grams on average from one bush, and 20-25 tonnes per hectare.

The total raspberry plantation area is 1.5 ha and the varieties Delniwa (Poland) and Heritage (USA) are grown. The planting density is about 5 500 seedlings per hectare under the scheme of 3.5 x 0.5 m. The seedlings are mulched with straw and drip irrigation is installed.

One year after planting, the yield of raspberries from one bush averaged 400 grams. Starting next year, it is expected to achieve a yield of 2-3 kg per bush and 10-15 tonnes per hectare.
