Last year, the Dutch apple and pear acreage remained virtually unchanged. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, that is 5,911 ha for apples and 10,099 ha for pears. The pear acreage grew by 33 ha since 2021, but that of apples shrank by 61 ha. Except for Rode Boskoop, all apple varieties' acreage decreased, reports the Netherlands Fruit growers Organization (NFO).
Jonagold's acreage (-32 ha) decreased the most. Since its top year of 469 ha in 2016, Junami's acreage has more than halved to its current 216 ha. The area of Kanzi peaked in 2016 (500 ha) too. Now, this club variety's acreage stands at 393 ha.
With pears, there are minor fluctuations in the main varieties: Conference, Doyenné du Comice, and B.A. Lucas. The remaining varieties' acreage increased by 33 ha.
