A good campaign starts with healthy plantlets

Operators know how important the health of a plantlet coming from a nursery truly is. Often, a whole campaign depends on the conditions of incoming plants regardless of the costs, efforts and opportunities missed when trying to intercept the market in the timeframe set by producers: setbacks ad delays can truly make a difference when it comes to prices.

FreshPlaza has talked about it with Danilo Palmieri (in the photo above), agronomist and production manager at the Cingoli facility of Centro SEIA, one of the leading nurseries in Italy and beyond.

"One of the facilities of Centro SEIA is located on the Marche hills near Cingoli. The location is one of our points of strength, as the area guarantees maximum isolation enabling a high level of health. In addition, the temperature, humidity, and light conditions are ideal, meaning we can obtain structural conditions that, in turn, enable an excellent adaptation to transplant conditions at the clients' facilities," explained Palmieri.

The Cingoli nursery

The nursery specializes in the production of grafted vegetable plantlets grown on both peat and mineral wool and coir substrates. The high health standard is certified by analyses performed on the cultivated plants, which are analyzed both internally thanks to a laboratory within the facility and externally by licensed laboratories.

"The company has been performing herbaceous grafting for over 30 years. It was, in fact, among the first in Italy to apply this technique to vegetable plants, at first for the hobby segment and later for the professional one. The nursery also features an innovative structure for organic plants, as demand for them is increasing both in Italy and abroad. The Cingoli facility boasts high-tech greenhouses that enable excellent weather management: over 70% of them are illuminated artificially. State-of-the-art climate control helps manage light, temperature, and humidity parameters and maximize plant quality thanks to specific models."

The nursery is located in an ideal position to reach production areas all over Italy in little time, as plants can be delivered in under 24 hours, thus reducing the stress they are subjected to during transport.
