South Africa's oldest table grape producer passes

The South African Table Grape Industry (SATI), posted a tribute to South Africa's oldest table grower on LinkedIn

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Martin van Niekerk's passing.

Martin, aged 96, was South Africa's oldest table grape producer. His farm, Rondog, situated in Vredendal is a familiar landmark in the area having been there since the 1950's.

Martin is fondly remembered by industry for his great interest in drip-irrigation and his passion for table grape farming and is well known for his Sultana, Hanepoot and Steen cultivars.

Our thoughts are with Martin's children, grandchildren and extended family.

Thank you for your valued contribution to the South African table grape industry. You will be missed.
