Gansu apples better quality and 10%-20% more expensive than last year

In China, the world's largest apple producer, the production areas are widely distributed. In recent years, apples from Gansu have been of better quality and have had higher prices at origin. This year, the new season of Gansu apples has been on the market for some time. Regarding the relevant market conditions, FreshPlaza communicated with Mr. Liu Wenpo, chairman of Beijing Runfuyuan Trading Co., Ltd.

"This year, the production area of Gansu has ushered in a year with less output. At the same time, the frequent extreme weather has affected the growth of fruit to a certain extent. Under the combined effect of these two factors, the yield of fruit this season is less than in previous years. But the overall quality of the fruit is better, the taste is sweeter, and the coloring is better," Liu said.

In terms of price, he continued: "Compared with the same period last year, the current price has increased by 10%-20%. Relatively speaking, most of them are big-sized fruits." When talking about the impact of the pandemic on the production season, he explained: "The pandemic has not had an excessive impact on sales. Both the logistics operation capacity and the overall consumption power have recovered to a large extent compared with the previous period."

Besides Gansu apples, Liu also grows greenhouse cherries in Dalian. The cherries are expected to be on the market ahead of Chinese New Year.
