Philippines look to crop programming to avoid losses

Crop programming is touted as the solution to ensure Filipino vegetable producers do not continue to flood markets and incur huge losses.

The Benguet provincial government is looking at the solution because producers all plant the same crop, harvest at the same time and flood markets. This causes tons of unsold vegetables such as cabbages to go unsold and rot at markets, causing losses.

The Benguet province produces about 80% of about 2 million kg of assorted vegetables daily. The lack of co-ordination causes major speculation and can lead to losses.
