Lourdes Bague, of Gys Grup: "We have already started with the citrus fruits from the Region of Valencia"

"It's becoming pretty hard to find cauliflowers and prices are quite high"

The citrus season is underway in Spain, the EU's leading producer and the world's largest exporter of fresh citrus, and reports say that, as has been the case with other important Spanish agricultural products, the citrus production will fall significantly compared to that of the previous campaign.

"The stone fruit campaign has not gone as we expected. We've had little fruit and also expensive, and we have only been able to export for about 3-4 weeks," said Lourdes Bague, of Gys Grup. "Now we have started with the citrus fruits. We are loading Clemenules, Oronules and Navelinas from the Region of Valencia in nets and in all kinds of formats to countries in Europe and to the Arab Emirates, where I have shipped a container last week. However, this year's prices are a little high and the demand is not as high as expected, according to both growers and marketers, as well as customers. In Switzerland they have even told us that the fruit is not selling as it used to. As for lemons, we have already started working with them this season and have shipped some to Portugal, where they will arrive in the next few days."

Gys Grup is a newly created company, but with 20 years of experience in different sectors, operating in the agricultural sector through Gys Fruit and in the energy and insurance sector through Gys Servicios. "We are also marketing a range of seasonal vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower and Iceberg lettuce. At the moment, it is quite difficult to find produce and prices are also high," says Lourdes.

"Last week, caliber 6 cauliflowers cost 7.50 Euro, and the week before they reached even 12 Euro. Some say there is a shortage of produce, but for now, sales are not going as expected. This year is going to be completely different from previous years at many levels."

"In any case, our goal at Gys Grup is to serve our customers with the best product. We are already working with customers in Switzerland, Portugal, Italy, Romania and the United Arab Emirates, and we want to focus on supplying fruit and vegetables to the entire European market."
