XIX International Banana Convention 2022

More than 80 companies in the banana industry seek to strengthen relations with Europe and other markets

The XIX International Banana Convention 2022, which is being held in Guayaquil, will end on October 28. The event, organized by the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE) with the participation of more than 80 companies in the banana industry and with more than 300 attendees, seeks to strengthen trade relations with the main markets in Europe and the world and to expand trade relations between all actors in the value chain.

Government authorities, such as Bernardo Manzano, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock; Susana Gonzalez, the Prefect of Guayas; and Johnny Teran, the Prefect of Los Rios, attended the event's inauguration. The President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, greeted the attendees by video.

At the event, members of Ecuador's Banana and Plantain Cluster met with Charles-Michel Geurts, Ambassador of the European Union to Ecuador, to present the sector's position on the European Green Deal.

Meanwhile, Marianela Ubilla, president of the board of directors of AEBE, defined Banana Time 2022 as a milestone for the sector, the country, and the whole world. She also highlighted the second Banana Roadshow that was held in Paris and Madrid, as it helped position the Ecuadorian banana's gastronomic side in conjunction with The School of Chefs.

"I am very proud of the work that the sector has done during this time. I'm sure that we can find Ecuadorian bananas wherever there are bananas in the world," Ubilla said.

The convention has several meeting spaces that will allow economic dynamization and the generation of new opportunities for progress and transformation for the banana sector. ProEcuador reported that, in alliance with AEBE, a virtual business meeting was also held with the participation of 20 exporters and 13 international buyers.
