"The purchase price of Hebei pears has nearly doubled compared to last year, overall quality is good"

Hebei Province is the main producing area of pears in China, and many varieties are grown there. "The pears were harvested from July to September. This year, the weather conditions in Hebei production areas are good, there is no drought or high temperature, and there is plenty of rain, so the overall quality of the pears produced in the new season is good," Mr. Wu Yajin, from Hebei Huajin Fruit Co., Ltd. told Freshplaza.

"Due to the sluggish pear market in the past two years, many fruit farmers gave up their pear cultivation this year and switched to grain or other economic crops, which has reduced the total output of pears in Hebei by more than 20% this year. However, the price is better than last year, which was too low. It has nearly doubled compared to last year, being a bit high.”

It is understood that the purchase price at orchards is about 5.4RMB/kg, and the previous season was only 2.7RMB/kg. Generally speaking, the normal value of the purchase price is about 3.8-4.6RMB/kg. Last year's low prices affected farmers' enthusiasm for planting. This year, prices have gradually returned to normal and are slightly higher.

"The return to normal prices is conducive to the sustainable development of planting. On the other hand, the cost price in the new season, which has nearly doubled compared with last year, has put pressure on market sales. Especially in the poor macroeconomic environment in recent years, market consumption has declined. What is the sales prospect of pears this year, and whether the market will fall back later, we are not yet clear, but it may not be easy to sell products.”

The sales of Huajin Fruit are mainly at wholesale market stalls, covering areas including Shenzhen, Changsha, Chengdu, and Wuhan. "Our location is basically a big city with good economic conditions, so the current sales are acceptable. This year, our goal is to "sell with the trend", that is, while the current market is good, we will try to move as much as possible and sell as much as possible, and strive to sell half of the pears before the Spring Festival to reduce the pressure in the future."

In previous years, the company generally only sold about one-third of the pears before the Spring Festival, and saved some of the pears to be sold at the peak of the fruit market, such as labor day and Tomb-Sweeping Day. However, this year, due to the uncertainty of the future market trend, the strategy has been adjusted.

There are more than 20 kinds of pears in the Hebei production area, and Huajin Fruit mainly focuses on four of them: Chinese white pear, Crown Pear, Hongxiangsu, and Yuluxiang. Mr. Wu mentioned that among them, he is more optimistic about the market prospects of crown pears and Hongxiangsu, because their prices are in the mid-range, the taste is sweet and juicy, and the market has responded well.

Hebei Huajin Fruit Co., Ltd. is mainly engaged in domestic sales, and its business includes planting, acquisition, storage and sales. The company has its own orchards, sorting lines, processing plants, and cold storage, with wholesale markets as its main sales channels.
