There is relatively big potential in Vietnam

The Italian Samboa and Ambrosia apples will hit Asian markets soon

The new season of Italian apples have started. "Our new apple varieties, the SAMBOA Apples and the sweet crunchy AMBROSIA apples have begun in the Europe market. They will soon be available to the consumers in Asia,” Kevin Au Yeung of RK Growers Srl told Freshplaza. Kevin is the Asia Market Manager.

SAMBOA is the brand of 3 new Brazilian varieties currently grown in Piemonte Italy, but there are already plans to work with reputable licensed growers in Italy and around the world to increase the volume to satisfy the rapidly growing market.

Since it’s a new variety, the volume this season is still relatively small, but the SAMBOA apple has already gained the attention and interest of many big retailers in Europe. “The SAMBOA apple project aims to provide sweet and crunchy apples throughout the year as volume continues to grow rapidly in the coming seasons, “ Kevin mentioned.

As for the Italian AMBROSIA apple, harvesting is almost completed in Piemonte and South Tyrol. This season, the coloration and crunchiness are both very good.

Kevin said, “The selling in Europe has started, and we will start shipping to Asia starting in Mid October, arriving in all major markets, such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, around mid-November. Vietnam will be later, due to the required 84 days of cold treatment requirement. In fact, the import volume in Vietnam is relatively large, especially the club variety apples. the market potential there is quite big.”

The availability of these varieties to Asia will be till mid-April.
