Top Fruits

"Hi-technology gives us a competitive position on the global market”

Started in 1986 as an agricultural paradise business at Batu Pahat, Top Fruits owns one of the largest Durian farms in Malaysia, with total durian plantations of almost 500acres, and most of their durian trees have a mature period of at least 20 - 30 years.

“The top 5 export markets of our durians in the last few years have been China, Singapore, Indonesia, the US and Canada. We are proud to say that our exports to China have increased from 50% to 70% in the past 3 years. Especially during the global pandemic period, thanks to the stable quality of the fruits and diversified sale channels, our exports to China have nearly doubled,” Mr Tan Sue Yee (CEO of Top Fruits) told Freshplaza.

“Unlike other durian growers, Top Fruits have been adapting Smart Farming technology on our farm to boost yields. Innovations include installing sensors to assess soil nutrients, using quality sprinklers to spread fertilizers and monitoring drones to apply pesticides. Thanks to all these measures, the company has seen a 40% increase in its durian crop and a 30% reduction in its workforce and soon we'll be moving to Precision Farming. As a result, it gives Top Fruits a competitive position on the global market.” Mr Tan shared.

When talking about potential opportunities and challenges on Chinese markets, Mr Tan said: “With more players joining the market, we would foresee a more competitive price offering. However, Top Fruits would view this as an opportunity, as we are constantly looking at innovative processes & technology to improve our efficiency & productivity to increase value added services to the customers.”

As is well known, Asia Fruit Logistica 2022 (AFL) will take place on 2-4 November 2022 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) in Thailand. Top Fruits will be present as an exhibitor.

In terms of their expectations, Mr Tan states: “Thailand is a key hub for SEA countries especially for the fruit business. We hope to take this opportunity to reconnect with our existing contacts, and most importantly, to build new networks and expand our business in the key Asian markets.”

Top Fruits team will welcome everyone at their stand Hall 1, B-49 (Top Fruits Marketing Sdn Bhd) at Asia Fruit Logistica 2022 (AFL).
