Ross Goatham - AC Goatham & Son

Pear volumes down, size and quality are good

The pear harvest started in early September at AC Goatham & Son in Rochester, Kent.

"Pear volumes are down due to the weather and blossom being poor," said Ross Goatham. "But this has meant good-sized fruit and the quality looks good too."

The trees have struggled through the hot summer but Goatham's have irrigation and fertigation so the orchards have weathered the heat well. Conference makes up 95-98% of all the pears grown

"Demand is very good for UK fruit its just a shame we only supply 8% of the pears sold in the UK."
