Albert Heijn is the first choice of online supermarket for Dutch shoppers, a new study by Deloitte has found, with some 54% of those that shop online ordering their groceries with the retailer. According to the consumer survey of 2,326 respondents, 41% opt for specialist retailer Picnic, while 34% choose Jumbo when shopping online.

Musgrave agrees supply partnership with e-commerce platform in Singapore
Ireland’s Musgrave Group has announced a new supply partnership with RedMart Singapore, the online supermarket arm of e-commerce platform Lazada Singapore, which is part of the Lazada Group. Portugal: €5.6mln fine for price fixing supermarkets
The Competition Authority (AdC) has fined the supermarket chains Auchan, Modelo Continente and Pingo Doce, as well as the joint supplier of alcoholic beverages Active Brands/Gestvinus, €5.6mln, for participating in a price-fixing scheme.

UK's John Lewis sinks to loss as cost of living crisis weighs
Britain's John Lewis Partnership reported a loss for the first half of the year and warned that the outlook for the rest of 2022 was highly uncertain due to the impact of the cost of living crisis on discretionary spending. The employee-owned group, which runs John Lewis department stores and the upmarket Waitrose supermarket chain, logged a loss before tax and exceptional items of 92mln pounds ($106mln) in the six months to July 30. That compares with a profit of 69mln pounds in the same period last year. It said that while department store sales were up 3% on a like-for-like basis to 2.1bln pounds, Waitrose sales dropped 5% to 3.6bln pounds.

US: Amazon Fresh opens a new California store
Just a week after its last store opening, fast-growing Amazon Fresh opened yet another high-tech supermarket, this one in East Pasadena, California, the retailer announced. Amazon hands out shipping software to merchants, including on rival sites
Amazon.com Inc said it would give merchants free software for managing shoppers' orders on and off its platform, as the retailer extends its e-commerce reach. The company is ending monthly fees of Veeqo, a shipping software firm it recently bought, for sellers including when they fulfill orders via rival platforms like Shopify Inc, eBay Inc or Etsy Inc.
