Father and son Richard and Mark van den Dolder active at Inverness Transport

"From day one we have specialised in the transport of agricultural products"

They are on the road every day for their customers, and that goes beyond just transporting goods from A to B. For over 17 years Richard has been at the helm of Inverness Transport and has built it up from scratch. Since 2020, his son Mark has also been working for the company. Mark completes the planning and is mainly involved in commerce.

Every day transport brings a diversity of obstacles and puzzles which Inverness Transport has the solution for. Inverness Transport also takes care of all the administrative and logistic planning work involved. This way, entrepreneurs who choose Inverness Transport can concentrate on what they do best: trading. Owner Richard van den Dolder tells about the developments Inverness Transport has experienced and the road ahead of them.

"From day one we have specialised in the transport of agricultural products. Potatoes, carrots, onions, as well as vegetables and fruit. Cocoa and coffee were added shortly afterwards. In piece goods, and in large volumes. We use refrigerated lorries, tautliners and bulk lorries," Richard says. That specialisation has taken them a long way. Literally, too. Inverness Transport has full European coverage, stretching from the south of Italy and Spain to Scandinavia, as far as Finland, England and (before the war) Russia and Uzbekistan.

Brexit expert in transport to and from England
"We work all over Europe, but notice that there are many questions about transport to and from England in particular. Many entrepreneurs run into issues that scare them, but where we have the expertise. We work with standards and know what is needed to make the crossing run as smoothly as possible. If you do not have the right papers with you, you could be stuck for a few days or weeks. We have close contact with various customs offices, each with their own specialities, throughout England, Europe and even beyond."

"We are a fairly small company with six people, but we have built up a large network with regular customers and carriers throughout Europe. In England, but also in Italy, Spain, Germany and France. The coffee we transport goes to the coffee roasting plants in Bremen and Hamburg, the cocoa to France or Italy, for example. We load, transport, unload, inform loading stations and work closely with customs offices throughout Europe. This is our strength: we are small and therefore move fast. The European coverage and the knowledge we have acquired ensure that we can switch quickly and serve our customers as a logistics partner."

Always looking for something new
"Due to the seasonal influences in the agricultural market, we have become active in coffee and cocoa, which goes on all year round. That versatility makes for a healthy business. We are always looking for something new. Paper, for example. We are now also active in packaging material, Christmas paper in this case, or machines. It would be great if we could transport your products as well."

The world changes
"That movement, that dynamism, that continuous moving along, seeing opportunities, new developments and responding to them: we love it. At first glance, the transport world seems to be straightforwardly about trucks moving from A to B, but there is of course much more to it than that. And the world is not standing still; besides road transport, we also arrange transport by train or ship, and increasingly we work with containers. In any case, we make sure that we never drive 'empty'. And that is not necessary: by communicating well and being flexible, there are always opportunities to arrange things efficiently."

Next generation
"We live in a dynamic world. With so many international transport movements, something always happens that makes it necessary to change plans or solve problems. That calls for a certain level of stress-resistance, which has to suit you. Richard and Mark throw energy and charm into the fray to get the transports right every day. Together with the Inverness team, of course. We will continue like this for a while."
