Exports of fruits and vegetables from the Maharashtra state have seen good growth. Agricultural exports from the state increased by 22 per cent in the financial year 2021-22 compared to 2020-21, with grapes and bananas accounting for the highest share. Happily, Lady Finger has also started being exported from backward districts like Chandrapur and Bhandara.
Maharashtra accounts for 98 per cent of the country’s total grape exports, and grapes have been exported from Nashik, Sangli, Solapur, Pune, Ahmednagar, Satara, Latur and Osmanabad districts. The export of peanuts has also gone up also, with Sangli, Nashik and Solapur districts leading the way.
Banana exports are increasing, rapidly followed by grapes. Around 273,381 tons of bananas have been exported from Jalgaon, Solapur, Nanded, Kolhapur and Sangli districts, mainly to Gulf and European countries.
