400 hectares of strawberry production in the Mexican state of Guanajuato have been affected by the rains

The rains devastated 400 hectares cultivated with strawberries in Guanajuato. Irapuato was the most affected municipality, with nearly 200 hectares affected.

There were also losses in strawberry crops in Penjamo, Abasolo, Dolores Hidalgo, and Acambaro, stated the regional leader of the National Peasant Confederation (CNC) of Guanajuato, Cuauhtemoc Prado Nava. In addition, producers in these areas face a serious crisis due to the poor quality of imported plants and the pests that afflict them.

Prado Nava said there are crops that have the latest technology to guarantee the production of strawberries but that there weren't enough to meet the demand. "The production is very low because of the rains, which affects them a lot. There are plantations with crops protected with macro tunnels, but there isn't enough surface protected to maintain production."
