Apricots: 2022 production to double in one year

"As of August 1, 2022, the apricot production of 2022 is expected to more than double over one year (+ 116%). After two years of low harvests, the current season marks a return to yields that are more in line with production potential. This observation can be noted in all the production basins. In July, prices, which were down over a year, remained higher than the five-year average. Sales are fluid both on the domestic and export markets, with demand favored by high temperatures," says Agreste.

Production doubled over 1 year
Apricot production in 2022 is expected to reach 128.4 thousand tons, which is +116% compared to last year's production, which was heavily impacted by spring frosts. After two years marked by low harvests, and despite a decrease in surface area, production in 2022 should exceed the five-year average (+16%).

Prices above the 2017/2021 Average
In July 2022, apricot prices are 16% higher than the 2017-2021 average but 14% lower than in 2021 due to higher supply. The weather allows for a sustained demand. Smaller sizes due to the heat but higher sugar levels are expected.
