The excessive heat is hindering plant growth and might ruin entire seasons for producers. The high temperatures reached imply the need to shade intensive crops.
"Our reflective screens have been available for over 20 years and are suitable for tomatoes, bell peppers, berries, fresh-cut products, flower plants and all those crops that require temperature and light control. Over the years, Lumigrey® has become essential to create microclimates that are more favorable to crops. Our net screens sunlight IR wavelengths, guaranteeing a good temperature control," reports Agrintech technician Gerardo Vaccaro.
"Lumigrey® is different from traditional shading nets that only reduce light intensity. Our product manages to also diffuse the light thanks to the unique weave and aluminized material The shading percentage can vary between 30 and 80% depending on crop needs." (See below).
Corrado Spitale, technician from Società Agricola Ortoin srl, a company specializing in the production of Pachino tomatoes, adds that "we have been using Lumigrey® for over 7 years and we have noticed great improvements. It provides suitable light and protection against the sun for our PGI tomatoes grown in approximately 10 ha of greenhouses."

"We apply the net to July and August transplants and keep it in place for the entire summer cycle until late September/early October. We use 40% shading nets for the lower greenhouses and 30% nets for taller ones, as we believe they provide the right amount of light. In addition to ensuring uniform shade, Lumigrey® guarantees lower temperatures and prolongs the duration of plastic films. Opening and closing is easier thanks to the practical cord, so we save money on management costs and make the product itself last longer."
