Brussels will appeal the judgments annulling trade agreements with Morocco

On Friday, the European Union (EU) gave the green light to appeal the annulment by the EU Tribunal of the agricultural and fisheries agreements with Morocco.

According to the EFE agency, the decision was taken in the council of European Ministers responsible for development. The EU has until December 16th to present its appeal to the European Court.

On September 29th, the EU Tribunal had annulled the agreements with Morocco, a highly contested decision. Following this announcement, the EU and Morocco declared that they would take the necessary measures to ensure the legal framework for the continuation and stability of their trade relations.

According to the data released this week by Fepex, association of fruit and vegetable exporters, Moroccan exports of fruit and vegetables have increased by 118% in value over the past ten years.

EU imports of fresh fruit and vegetables from Morocco went from 856,914 tons in 2010 to 1.4 million tons in 2020, which is 63% more. In value, they went from 822,642 euros [926,241 USD] to 1.8 million euros [2.03 million USD].
